It’s DSP Week

September 9-15 is DSP Recognition Week! While you may never have heard of it, it’s an important week for our community.

DSPs, or Direct Support Professionals, are the thousands of staff who provide support to people with disabilities and other support needs. You are probably familiar with a PCA or Home Health Aid; these are specific types of DSPs. They provide support everywhere from group homes, people’s individual homes, and even out in public settings. They assist people in volunteering, employment, or just engaging with their community.

It’s hard to pay these dedicated professionals the wages they deserve, as essentially all the funding for their services comes from state-set Medicaid rates. But they still come to work and do incredible work which we want to honor. We think it’s incredibly important that our community knows about these great people, many of whom are their neighbors.
